Richland County Highway II in Westford Township is closed from Corwin ridge Road to Massey Hill Drive from 8:00 to 2:00 Thursday, May 16.

Christ Lutheran Church’s – Churchwide Rummage Sale in Spring Green will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 16 through 18. Hours Thursday and Friday will be from 7:30 to 2:30 and from Saturday 7:30 to Noon.

The Walk with GRACE Kick-off will be held Thursday, May 16, at the Richland Center Community Center. It will feature a pancake supper from 4:30 to 7:00 and a short explanation of the team packet at 6:00. Team registration is $150. All are encouraged to attend. A free will offering will be accepted for the pancake supper.

Auditions for “The Music Man” will be held at the Richland Center City Auditorium Thursday, May 16, at 6:30. No experience is needed to try out for the show. Calm yourself by watching the Community Players Music Man Audition Video on the Benjamin Koelsch You Tube channel. People are also welcome to show up and just watch auditions to see if they might want to be involved. In addition, those who cannot make the audition dates for some reason can ask to audition remotely. Email your request to community players swwi at gmail dot com. Players are still needed for the live orchestra that will accompany the show. It will be led by Logan Willis, who has been involved in several shows and has a Master’s degree in Musical Composition from the University of Maryland. Performances of Community Players of Southwest Wisconsin’s, The Music Man, will be held July 26, 27, 28 and August 2, 3 and 4.

Friday, May 17

A baseball themed wine walk will be held in Richland Center Friday night (May 17) from 5:30 to 11:30. The Greater Richland Area Chamber of Commerce will host Take Me Out to the Wine Walk downtown. Participants are invited to stop by various businesses from 5:30 to 8:30.Following the wine walk stay for a Grand Slam Dance Party featuring the local band, BALDD, in the Royal Bank parking lot on Court Street. The Richland Center baseball team will have a hot dog and brat stand at the band concert. Tickets priced at $35 for the wine walk are available at Community First Bank, Creative Layers Hair & Nail Salon, and J. Jay Walsh Jewelers, or online at rcchamber.org/winewalk. Friends of Blue River will host a Jigsaw Puzzle Competition Friday, May 17. Doors will open at 6:00 with the competition beginning at 7:00. Teams consist of four people. If you don’t know any other puzzlers, every attempt to form teams of four during the registration period will be made. Teams of less than four people will be allowed. There is no age limit. Each team receives the same puzzle. During the event, there will be a “Leave a puzzle, take a puzzle” table. Bring your own beverage and snacks. Until further notice, County Highway BB in Richland County will be closed to thru traffic. Double B is located in Buena Vista Township in Sections 6 and 7. It will remained closed to thru traffic between County Highways B and BA for the purpose of Road Construction. All emergency services will continue to have access during the duration of the project.

County Highway I, from State Highway 80 to State Highway 58, is posted for a reduced weight limit of 10 tons until further notice. A structurally deficient box culvert has been identified and threatens road way travel if proper actions are not taken to replace this structure. Richland County Highway apologizes for any delays in travel this causes but are working as fast as possible to assess the issue and design a replacement. This may take time to do. In the meantime, signs identifying the weight limit and a reduced speed limit zone to cross over the structure are posted.

Richland County United Givers grant application period is now open. Non-profit organizations can apply for funds to help with the group’s goals. For more information go to the website rcunitedgivers.org. The application deadline is June 15.

Saturday, May 18

Race for GRACE will be held Saturday, May 18. The 5K and 10K will feature a quarter mile kids run and one mile run/walk. Cost for the kids run is $20; the one mile run is $25; the 5K is $35; and the 10K is $45. There will also be a Firefighters Challenge. Firefighter teams participating will have three or more firefighters from the same department. Each team, regardless of size pays a $100 registration fee. However, firefighter teams must wear turnout gear. Coat and pants are required; helmet and air tank are optional. Team members must finish together. Dayton Corners Cemetery Clean Up Day will be held Saturday, May 18, from 8:00 to Noon.

The 2024 Viroqua Farmers Market will be held Saturdays through October from 8:00 to 12:30.

Pine River Cemetery clean-up day is Saturday May 18, from 8:30 until done. Feel free to bring rakes and clippers.

The Riverdale FFA greenhouse is open through Saturday, May 18. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 to 4:00 and Saturdays 9:00 to 1:00. Hanging baskets, annual plants and garden plants are available. The greenhouse is self-service.

The Muscoda American Legion will be selling morel mushrooms Saturday, May 18, beginning at 9:00 AM at the Mushroom Headquarters located at the Kratochwill Building. 400 pounds of mushrooms will be fried up and sold for $15 a serving. A limited amount of fresh morels will be available at an estimated cost of $50 to $70 per pound.

Free milk n cheese will be available Saturday, May 18, from 9:30 until gone at Park Street Christian Church, Seminary Street entrance. The Little Lamb Closet will also have free baby items available from 9:30 to 11:30. Use the Park Street entrance.

The Richland County Veteran’s Monument Committee invites you to the dedication of the fist placement of the Veterans Headstones. The event will be held Saturday, May 18, at 1:00 at the Richland Center Cemetery.

Richland Center Parks & Recreation and the Richland Center Primary School will host Stewardship Day Saturday, May 18, from 2:30 to 4:00. The day is being held to honor Arbor day and Earth Day to clean the community parks and plant trees. Park clean-up will be held from 2:30 to 3:00 at the Old Mill Pond Park, Krouskop Park, and West Side Park. Maps, gloves, and trash bags will be provided. A tree planting will be held at Old Mill Pond Park at 3:00. A Tree City USA Proclamation will be presented by Mayor Todd Coppernoll at 3:30.

Knights of Columbus Council 3492 will host bingo Saturday, May 18, starting at 6:30 at the Richland Center Community Center. The progressive jackpot will be $2,514 + 50% of net sales in 55 calls or less.

The Richland Center High School choirs will perform their spring concert Saturday night, May 18, at 7:30 in the high school auditorium.

Sunday, May 19

Ithaca Lions Club Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser for Pat Crook will be held Sunday, May 19, from 7:00 to 12:30 at the Ithaca High School Commons. There will also be a bake sale and silent auction.

The Friends of the Little Brown Church will host a Spring Service at the Brown Church Sunday, May 19, starting at 10:30. The message will be delivered by Ron Fruit with special music by Loren Glassbrenner. The service is Ecumenical, and all are welcome to attend. A coffee hour will follow the service.

St. John Evangelist Catholic Church Knight’s of Columbus in Spring Green will host a drive-thru Chicken Barbecue. All are invited to attend Sunday, May 19, from 11:00 to 1:00.

Busy Bees Garden Club registration is open for children ages 3 through Grade 4. The program will begin Sunday, May 19, with a Meet and Greet from 3:30 to 4:30. Weekly programs will begin Tuesday, June 4, and run through Tuesday, July 23, from 9:15 to 10:15. A family picnic will be held Sunday, July 28, at 4:30. There will also be family favorite activities on Thursday such as face painting, chalk drawing, and a scavenger hunt.

The City of Richland Center will be placing flags in front of veteran’s headstones on Wednesday, May 22, starting at 4:30 to honor them for Memorial Day. Volunteers would be appreciated to help. All volunteers can meet in the cemetery starting at 4:30 on Wednesday, the 22nd.

The Richland Center Memorial Day Parade needs Patriotic displays, Patriotic themes, marching bands, Veterans to lead the Parade, and Patriotic Riders groups to participate in the Parade Monday, May 27. The parade line-up is at 9:30 near 1st and 2nd and Jefferson streets and will proceed at 10:00 to the Veterans Memorial Pavilion at Krouskop Park with the ceremony starting immediately after. When the Memorial Day ceremony ends, the Woman’s Relief Corp Water service remembering those lost at Sea will also take place at North Park near the small bridge and shelter area. In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will take place at the Richland Center High School Gymnasium starting at 10:00 without a Parade.

Thursday, May 23

The Tomah VA Medical Center will hold a Memorial Day ceremony and outreach event Thursday, May 23, from 10:00 until noon. All Veterans and the general public are invited to attend the ceremony and event, which will take place on the steps of the medical center’s building 400. Those that attend can also honor and remember deceased loved ones by placing their loved one’s name on a leaf to hang on the Memorial Day Tree. Informational tables will also be available with resources about new benefits under the historic PACT Act, and VA care.

The ADRC and Symons Recreation are partnering to host a 3K/5K Wellness Stride Walk/Run Thursday, May 23, at 5:00. Sign in begins at 4:30. There will be no cost for individuals over the age of 60. Cost for participants under the age of 60 will be $10.

The 4th through 6th Grade Students at the Richland Center Intermediate School will be performing their Spring Concert at the Richland Center High School Auditorium Thursday, May 23, at 6:30. Admission is free.

The ADRC is partnering with the Richland Hospital to provide Dementia Live to the community Thursday, May 30. Three simulation time frames are available: 9:00 to 10:00, 10:15 to 11:15, and 1:30 to 2:30. The simulation provides people with the opportunity to see what it is like to live with dementia. There is a seven-minute virtual experience and then a short educational session to follow. If you are interested in signing up, contact the ADRC at 608-647-4616. Space is limited.

Get ready to groove to the rhythm of summer as Live in Viroqua music series takes over downtown Viroqua. Presented in front of the Fortney Hotel on Court Street, this free series of live music shows will begin Saturday, May 25, and continue every other Saturday until August 31. Gates will open at 5:00 with the music starting at 6:00. A diverse lineup of bands, local food vendors and artisans, will be featured at Live in Viroqua. Saturday, May 25, will feature DeeOhGee delivering a fusion of hip-hop, funk, and soul. The Kickapoo Valley Rescue Squad Pancake Breakfast will be held Sunday, May 26, from 7:00 to Noon. Enjoy the pancake breakfast, ambulance tours, and blood pressure screenings. This free event is open to the public. Free will donations are accepted and appreciated.

Thursday, May 30

Registration is now open for The Highground’s 2024 Female Veterans Retreats. The Female Veterans Ice Age Trail Hike is scheduled for May 30 to June 2 and The Highground-based Female Veterans Retreat will take place June 21 through 23. The Ice Age Trail Hike will include five to eight miles of hiking on rolling/hilly terrain along the Ice Age Trail in the Holcombe area. The group will return to overnight individual tent camping and workshops on outdoor skills and PTSD / MST management at a rural town hall property. The retreat will also include kayaking and canoeing. The Highground-based Female Veterans Retreat will include activities and workshops at the Park and local areas. Vietnam Veteran Nurse Sarah Blum will lead Post-traumatic Stress (PTSD) and Military Sexual Trauma (MST) recovery workshops and talking circles.Registration is required for both retreats and there is a $30 registration fee which will be refunded to the Veterans when they arrive. Female Veterans who are interested in attending the retreats are encouraged to email Theresa at museum@thehighground.org as soon as possible. Those who don’t have email can call 715-743-4224. Veterans can sign up for both retreats. The Highground covers the cost of food, lodging, and supplies, including basic camping equipment for the Ice Age Trail Hike for veterans. Travel expenses to and from are the responsibility of those attending.

Saturday, June 1

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has closed part of Highway 12 near Wisconsin Dells for construction through mid-July. The road is closed from the northern Sauk County Line down to Highway 13 on the northwestern side of Wisconsin Dells. Detours include Highway 13 and the Interstate to get around the construction zone.

Join the Richland Center Police and Parks & Recreation Departments for the Cops & Bobbers Fishing Derby Saturday, June 1, at North Park Pond. This is a free family event where you can have fun fishing while getting to know your local officers and recreation department staff. There will also be door prizes, giveaways, and awards for the largest, smallest, and most fish caught. Registration will be held from 8:00 to 8:30 with fishing from 8:30 to 10:00. Awards and prizes will be distributed from 10:00 to 10:30. Children 18 and under, accompanied by an adult are eligible. Each participant should bring their own fishing tackle and bait. Advanced registration is encouraged but may be done the day of the event. Mineral Point will host a Tour of Homes Saturday, June 1, from 10:00 to 4:00. This event offers a unique opportunity to step inside some of Mineral Point’s most beautiful and interesting homes. While many people associate Mineral Point with the sandstone miner’s cottages, this tour offers something different by showing a diverse array of homes, each with its own story to tell. From well-preserved historic residences to new construction, the tour showcases the wide range of homes in Mineral Point. Tickets for the Tour of Homes are $30 per person and can be purchased in advance at mineralpoint.com.

The 7th Winding Roads Art Tour will be held Saturday and Sunday, June1 and 2, from 10:00 to 5:00. Sixteen Viroqua area studios will welcome visitors giving art enthusiasts a rare opportunity to meet 27 artists, see their work and observe how and where it is made. Artwork will be available for purchase and artists will be on hand for conversations on creativity, and to give art demonstrations. VIVA Gallery in Viroqua has taken on the role of Information Center, where tour participants can get printed tour guides and friendly help. The self-guided tour encompasses seven studios in Viroqua and nine more studios within a 22-mile radius of the city. The guide book, available at VIVA Gallery, includes a map of the tour sites as well as places for food, drink and lodging. Richland County Senior Dining Meal sites are open to the public for in-person dining. The Woodman Senior Center will serve meals Monday through Friday at 11:45. The Germantown Senior Dining Meal Site, located at St. Anthony’s School (32497 County Highway V, Cazenovia) is open Wednesdays with serving at 11:15. Join the Woodman Senior Center for a Diamond Jo Casino Bus Trip to Dubuque, Iowa on June 13. The charge of $35 per person is non-refundable and includes $10 for free play and a $15 meal credit . Sunday, June 2

Christ Lutheran Church will host a Gathering in the Garden Sunday, June 2, at 10:00. The service will be at the Post House Garden on Jefferson Street in downtown Spring Green. Following the service, lunch will be available for purchase from 11:00 to 1:00 with music provided by the Solstice Jazz Band. All are welcome.

A.D. German Warehouse Public Tours are held Sundays at 11:00, Noon, 1:00 and 2:00. Cost of a tour is $20 per person. The tour season will run through Sunday, October 6.

Old Franklin Township Historical Society (OFTHS) Open House will be held the first and third Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00, during the months of June through September. During the 2024 Open House season one of the highlights will be an Exhibit of Native American Artifacts which was found on the Joe and Lucille Wankerl farm in the Township of Franklin in Sauk County. OFTHS is also celebrating its 20th Anniversary, with special treats on June 16th.

The Akey School Museum will open for the summer Sunday, June 2, and will be open each Sunday June, July, August and September from 1:00 until 4:00.

Monday, June 3

It’s Senior farmers’ Market Voucher Time. An eligible person is a Richland County resident, age 60 or older, or a Native American age 55 years or older, and meets the income requirements. Enrolled seniors will receive vouchers worth $45 per qualifying individual which are good through October 31. These vouchers may be used to purchase locally grown fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs at approved farmers’ markets or roadside stands. Vouchers will be distributed on set dates, times and locations during the month of June. On distribution dates, please be prepared to wait, there is a limited number of vouchers for each distribution date. Vouchers will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. After the last date in June, any remaining vouchers can be given as a walk-in to the Aging, Disability, Resource Center (ADRC). The first voucher distribution will be held Monday, June 3, from 10:00 to 11:00 at the Richland Center Community Services Building in Conference Room A/B. Vouchers will also be distributed on Wednesday, June 5, from 10:30 to 11:30 at Ridgeview Commons Apartments in Richland Center in the lower level; Wednesday, June 12, from 1:00 to 2:00 at Richland Hills Apartments in Richland Center in the Dining/Commons Area; Thursday, June 13, from 2:30 to 3:30 at the Tom Woodman Villa Community Room in Richland Center; Tuesday, June 18; from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Park Apartments in Richland Center; Thursday, June 20, from 10:30 to 11:30 at the Woodman Senior Center in Richland Center; Wednesday, June 26, from 10:15 to 11:15 at the Germantown Meal Site in Cazenovia; and Wednesday, June 26, from12:30 to 1:30 at the Community Services Building Conference Room A/B in Richland Center. Vernon County Emergency Management will be testing sirens the first Monday of each month at 11:00 through September. There will be one exception for the Monday test, September 2nd. For that month the sirens will be tested the following day. If inclement weather is in the area the test will be done the next good weather day.

The Vernon County Over 50 will host Tai Chi Exercise at the Bethel Home Fellowship Hall each Monday and Wednesday from 1:00 to 1:45. It will be streamed to the Viroqua and Ontario Public Library.

Tuesday, June 4

Tech Help Tuesday will be held every Tuesday at the Brewer Public Library from 9:00 to Noon. Get basic help with all apps and devices. Walk-ins are welcome. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the Brewer Public Library at 608-647-6444. There is no charge for this service.

The Highground will offer classes for beginner and continuing ukulele. The Highground. Summer ukulele classes will begin on Thursday, June 6. All courses are led by local award-winning musician and instructor Victoria Shoemaker. Victoria has partnered with The Highground to develop this music program for Veterans. The 10-session course is free for Veterans. The Highground is able to supply the instructions, instruments and basic supplies needed for the courses thanks to donors. The Re-Dedication of the Hillside Theater at Taliesin will be held Saturday, June 8, from 2:45 to 5:00. Agrace will be offering “Bridges,” a professionally led, virtual grief support group for adults who are grieving the death of any loved one. Bridges will meet Wednesday, June 12, from 9:30 to 11:00, via Zoom. The Vernon County Health Department will be offering “Wellness Screenings.” The screening includes cholesterol and blood sugar levels, as well as an assessment of blood pressure and discussion of risk factors for heart disease. Vernon County Health Department will be offering screenings the second Thursday of the month from 7:30 to 10:30. A $10 donation is requested, but not required. Taste of the Hills will be held Saturday, June 15, from 4:00 to 9:00 at Krouskop Park in Richland Center. Admission to the event is free and includes live music by the Dan Lepien & Kelly Long Band and activities for everyone. Viroqua’s 4th annual Beer Walk will be held Saturday, June 15, from 6:00 to 9:00. It will be an evening of community spirit, snacks, and live entertainment.
